Suction temp. controller for IC engine - has two stage thermostatic valve varying pressure admitted to control positioners

The engine has a suction manifold (25) with a carburettor (3) and a throttle (4). There is a direct air intake (7) and a heated air intake (8) through a section of pipe (13) placed against part (14) of the exhaust. A damper (9) moved by a pneumatic positioner (12) controls the junction of the two intakes. A second pneumatic positioner (16) moves a damper (17) in the exhaust which diverts the exhaust through a section (18,19) which preheats the fuel air mixture downstream of the throttle. A two stage thermostatic valve (21) in the suction manifold (25) admits either suction pressure (24) or atmospheric pressure (26) to the pneumatic positioners (12,16) to maintain the optimum mixture temp.
