Slidable turntable for machine tool loading - is rotatable in slide carriage and directly supported on machine tool bed

The slidable and rotatable turntable assembly, e.g. for use as a workpiece support e.g. in a vertical boring machine, comprises a machine tool bed with guide ways (2,3) for a slide carriage (7) holding the turntable (10). The turntable is rotatable in a stepped bore in the carriage which provides an annular groove (1) engaged by a radially outward collar (12) at the underside of the table which rests directly on the bed. The sliding movement is provided by a drive (8) arranged by the sides of the bed. The rotary indexing movement of the load/unload and machining positions is provided by engagement e.g. of a pinion (13) on the underside of the table, with a drive in the bed at these two positions.
