The arrangement is intended for placing covers from a stacked supply (24) on containers on a conveyor (26,27) in a container filling and sealing machine. The covers are taken from the supply by suction cups (3) on radial arms (2) carried by a rotary shaft (1). The shaft is lifted towards the stacked supply so that the lowermost cover is engaged by a suction cup and then lowered to place a cover on a container below. This is effected by a cam disc (5) on the main drive shaft (4) which, via a cam follower and levers (6), moves a slide rod assembly (11,12) carrying the shaft (1) bearing (23) up and down. The shaft (1) is driven (18-21) via a coupling (22,A-C) which permits relative radial displacement between input (21) and output (1).
