The drum comprises a main body (1) with the drumhead (4) releasably connectable, e.g. via spring-loaded bayonet rings (7a,b) to lower body portions (2) of different types. This enables the drum to produce variations in tone character. One lower body portion may carry a tunable (9) resonance skin (8) whilst others may be open-ended, have a downwardly diverging bell shape, may form a hemispherical closed bottom, or an open long cylindrical extension. The lower portions are pref. rapidly interchangeable and may comprise an intermediate extension.
