PURPOSE:Ammonium chloride is used as a catalyst to effect the reaction between methyl formate, more than equivalent amount of ammonia and methanol under condition pressurized with carbon monoxide to produce the titled compound in low costs by no use of dimethylamine as a starting material. CONSTITUTION:In the presence of ammonium chloride as a catalyst, the reaction between methyl formate, ammonia and methanol is conducted under conditions pressurized with carbon monoxide, preferably at 5-300kg/cm<2> at 170-280 deg.C to produce the objective compound. The amount of ammonia is more than equivalent to methyl formate, preferably 2-10 times moles and the amount of methanol is, in general, 1-20 times the molar quantity of methyl formate. |
