Zigzag bending of metal bars or rods - in machine making numerous bends simultaneously, esp. for mfg. lattice girders

The bars or rods possess a round or polygonal cross-section and, after bending, are used esp. as the diagonal members of grid- or lattice- girders. Several zig-zag bends are made simultaneously. The pref. bending machine consists of a row of work cylinders with piston rods. Each piston rod is connected by a pivot coupling to two connecting rods (I,II) carrying bending mandrels. . The work cylinders are driven synchronously so several pairs of rods (I,II) form a row of zigzag bends in a single operation. All the rods (I,II) pref. consist of two tubular end pieces with an internal thread; the end pieces are joined by a threaded spindle so the length of all the rods (I,II) can be adjusted. Similar conventional processes make a row of zigzag bends one at a time. The invention makes numerous bends in a single operation.
