Polyurethane/diacrylate compositions are obtained by polymerizing a diacrylate in the presence of from 30 to 95 weight percent of a hydrophilic polyurethane resin, e.g. a resin derived from polyethylene glycol as the polyol. The resulting products will form a hydrogel upon immersion in water and are permeable to gases, ions and other low molecular weight species. The hydrophilic polyurethane/diacrylate compositions may be molded to form shaped products, e.g. a suture, burn dressing, implant, i.u.d., canula, vacular or corneal prosthesis, oral delivery system, battery separator plate, a gas permeable or dialysis membrane, blood oxygenator, surgical drape or contact lens, that are insoluble in solvents, dimensionally stable after repeated exposure to boiling water and exhibit memory. Medicaments may optionally be distributed through the hydrophilic polyurethane/diacrylate compositions. |
