A spindle 10, Fig. 2 on which a reel 16 can be locked against axial displacement includes a flange 18 at one end and two fingers 66, 66' at its other end, there being a single manually operable knob 42 for causing the fingers to move simultaneously about axes parallel to the spindle axis, from a retracted position inside the reel to an outwardly projecting setting blocking removal of the reel from the spindle. A sun gear 50 is rigid with the knob 42 and meshes with a gear 60, 60' rigid with each finger 66, 66', the fingers being mounted on stud shafts 54, 54'. The fingers 66, 66' are interconnected by a common spring 76 that causes the fingers to be biassed to the setting to which they have been moved by operation of the control knob. |
