Storage tank automatic fire-protection system - has rope under tension breaking under excess temperature to operate extinguishers

The automatic fire-protection system is for storage tanks containing hydrocarbon material and with floating or suspended roofs. A ring main is mounted round the roof edge, having nozzles discharging a fire-extinguishing chemical and connected to a series of bottles containing the chemical. A rope under tension (46) is passed through eyes (47) on the floating roof and incorporates frangible links at intervals, breaking when the temp. exceeds a set threshold value. This rope is coupled to control mechanisms on the bottles (6), releasing the contents of the latter when it breaks.
