The pattern of temperature changes in the cervix of a woman of child-bearing age can be used to predict ovulation and to determine the date of conception in the case of a pregnant woman. Conventionally, the temperature is taken by thermometer and recorded by the woman herself, but inaccuracies in reading and timing can distort the results. The device is designed to be fitted into the neck of the cervix. It has an electrical circuit which records the temperature at a predetermined time each day for a maximum of three months. The device, known as a cervix clock, can be removed by a doctor and the results read into electronic processing equipment.
