The mechanism allows the working stroke of a ram piston to be extended and comprises a pair of bars (10,12) hinging together. The free ends of the bars are coupled to components (4,5) to be moved in relation to each other and the piston (8) acts on one of the bars. The mechanism can be used on a telescopic crane jib comprising bottom, middle and top sections. The ram (6) is mounted on the bottom section and the piston acts on the protruding middle one via a hinging bar. The other end of this bar hinges on a bar coupled to the jib top section.
