PURPOSE:To perform automatic centering and connecting of optical fibers, by using a soft material member having a shape of frustum of circular cone or pyramid and having a through-hole for optical fibers at the center, and a hard member with a hole of a shape opposite to the soft member. CONSTITUTION:A projected part 2 of the connector has a perforated hole 23, whose periphery coincides with the outer periphery of an optical fiber 3 or slightly larger than it, at the center, and is formed to have a shape of a frustum of circular cone or pyramid whose one end gradually becomes smaller in diameter. Moreover, the parts 2 is made of a soft material which is easily deformed when an external force of more than a level is applied to the material. A recessed parts 1 is made of a hard material and the inside is formed to have a hole of a frustum of circular cone or pyramid which corresponds to the tapered end of the member 2. One end of a fibers 3 is inserted into the hole 23 from a side 22 of a parts 2 through a side 11 of the parts 1 and another fiber 3 is inserted into the hole 23 from another side 21 of the parts 2, and both ends are contacted to each other at the half way of the hole 23. When the parts 2 is thrusted into the parts 1 in such a way that the relative location of the fiber 3 to the parts 2 is not changed, the parts 2 is deformed inward and centering and connection of the fibers are made automatically. |
