The lifting mechanism for heavy loads has a base frame mounted on wheels and carrying two arms forming a scissor linkage. Each arm consists of two plates connected by cross members, and an upper horizontal tensioning member is attached to their top ends. At least one arm has its plates shaped to form a curved cam track against which is forced a cam to ensure an even distribution of the load on the arms and a smooth lifting movement. The load carrying members mounted on the arms are controlled by the upper tensioning member.
