1,233,108. Valves. AUTOMATIC SWITCH CO. 12 Nov., 1968 [3 Jan., 1968], No. 53563/68. Heading F2V. A valve comprises a solenoid 24 with an armature 26, the armature influencing the position of a wedging element 39 whereby balls 38 are caused to intrude the recess 35 in a sleeve 21 slidable relative to the valve body, the intrusion latching the disc carrier 13 and the sleeve 21 together so that the disc 12 can be manually raised by the member 30. A spring 44 interposed between a plug nut 25 and the armature 26 is stronger than the spring 43. Consequently when there is no current through the solenoid the armature 26 is forced to its lower position (Fig. 1) in which the balls 38 are held in a carrier 14. On raising the member 30 the sleeve 21 is not latched to the carrier 14 and so the valve is not opened. When a current passes through the solenoid 24 the armature 26 is raised to its upper position (Fig. 2, not shown), the spring 43 causing the balls 38 to intrude the recess 35. On raising the member 30, the valve is opened. The member 30 can be rotated slightly to hold the valve open, but should the solenoid 24 be subsequently de-energized, the spring 44 forces the wedge 39 downwards to unlatch the carrier 14 and so close the valve. In another arrangement the valve can only be opened when the solenoid is de-energized. |
