<p>The mechanical transmission drives a vehicle with continuous variation of the output shaft (18) speed. It comprises a bevelled or cylindrical gear differential (7) in combination with an epicyclic gear train (9), used in conjunction with a variable speed belt (10) to transmit a variable speed couple from a drive shaft (1) to a driven shaft. Three gears (2,3,4), the differential and the epicyclic train may suffice to drive the driven shaft, with the couple transmitted by the belt (23) being zero when the drive to driven (18) shaft speed ratio equals that of the pinions. Changes in the ratio of the pulley (6,10) diameters modify the output of the epicyclic train (9).</p> |
