The device for locally heating an object has on a heatable carrier (1, 18) a diamond tip (2, 17) which serves to locally heat an object. The high strength, chemical resistance and thermal conductivity of diamond enables the device to be used as a soldering bit for fine soldering work and as a thermal recorder with a very long service life. <IMAGE>
