摘要 1,096,605. Work-positioning. MOLINS ORGANISATION Ltd., D. T. N. WILLIAMSON, D. W. B. MUIR and A. G. MONK. Sept. 25, 1964 [Sept. 27, 1963], No. 38228/63. Headings B3B, B3C and B3K. [Also in Division G3] A workpiece support comprises means for receiving a workpiece carrier of predetermined form, positioning means for producing movement of the carrier in two of three mutually perpendicular dimensions relative to the receiving means, clamping means to hold the carrier immovably against a reference surface to locate the carrier in the third dimension, sensing means producing control signals when the carrier reaches a predetermined position relative to the receiving means in the two dimensions and control means responsive to each control signal to stop operation of the positioning means in the corresponding dimension and responsive to both control signals to initiate operation of the clamping means. As shown, a work support 1, Fig. 3, for use in a tape-controlled drilling or end-milling machine, comprises positioning rollers 4, 5 for moving a work-carrier in two dimensions and magnetic sensing devices 20-22 for producing signals when the work-carrier is correctly positioned in each of the dimensions to cause clamping means 3, 6 to hold the carrier against a reference surface to locate the carrier in a third dimension. The support is used in an adjustable vertical position to co-operate with the horizontal spindle of the machine which can be adjusted horizontally and vertically. The work-carrier or platen 2, Fig. 4, has two T-slots 9, 10 and a rectangular groove 11 containing a recess 24 which co-operate respectively with clamping means 3 and verticalpositioning rollers 4, clamping means 6 and driving rollers 8, Fig. 3, and a horizontalpositioning roller 5. The positioning rollers 4, 5 are eccentric and are each rotatable by an electric motor; roller 5 being additionally movable by a solenoid. The clamping means 6, 3, Fig. 6, are actuated hydraulically. The driving rollers 8 carry dog-clutches to engage driving means rotated by a pair of chains. The surface of the support 1 has V-ribs 16 to prevent swarf from interfering with contact between the support and platen. If a platen is not correctly seated air from jets 18, Fig. 6, escapes underneath the platen edges and prevents operation of the machine tool and operates a visual or other alarm and or operates means for releasing the pallet clamps and clearing swarf by an air blast. The magnetic sensing devices 20, 21, 22 comprise E-shaped stators having balanced windings co-operating with ferrite stator discs 23 on the pallet; when the position of the pallet has twice been checked as correct by a control circuit, the pallet is clamped and then checked again. When correctly positioned and clamped, feeding of the tool or work commences automatically. Safety devices include micro-switches X to prevent driving the rollers 8 when a pallet is clamped and operation of the clamping means when no pallet is present, and switches to indicate excessive pallet adjustment. Overlapping plates 5a, 56, prevent swarf passing to the rear of the support.
