Sea wave to mechanical energy converter - uses float on swinging arm driving double-sided ratchet mechanism to extract energy on rise and fall of wave

A rectangular frame (4) is carried on a weighted base (5). An arm (2), pivoted from the frame, carries a float (1). A curved double sided ratchet (7) bar (6) runs between ratchet wheels (8,9) placed on either side of it and mounted on the top of the frame, clear of the water. The ratchets are arranged so each wheel operates alternately on upward and downward movement of the float, and mechanical coupling is provided to impact unidirectional rotation to a flywheel (16) driving a generator (15). The floats can be constituted by the hull of a boat. The arm (2) is prolonged to the side opposite to that of the float (1), w.r.t. a horizontal support arm, and this extension bears a toothed section which acts on the gear of a generator.
