Security paper having authenticity features in the form of luminescent substances, and process for authenticity testing of the security paper and device for carrying out the testing process

Security paper having incorporated or imprinted luminescent authenticity marks which absorb in the visible region of the optical spectrum or have a transparent region in the infrared in which the luminophore also emits. As a result of the absorption in the visible region, undesired parasitic emissions which would make the luminophores visually discernible on appropriate excitation are suppressed. The emission in the infrared is used to detect the authenticity of the document. Suitable luminophores are rare earth metal luminophores in suitable host lattices, in particular in ferrite lattices or garnet lattices which contain transition metal ions as absorbing elements.
