Microporous, refractory building material - contg. high proportion of small gas or air bubbles, and used esp. as lightweight fireproof concrete

A mixt. is made contg. a hydraulic binder; granular aggregate; water; and a foamant. A gas is then injected into the mixt. so that almost all the gas bubbles obtd. have a max. dia. of 1 mm, and the total vol. of the gas bubbles is equal to the total vol. of the dry constituents in the mixt. The gas is pref. subjected to intensive stirring while the mixt. is subjected to high pressure. The hydraulic binder is pref. a calcium aluminate cement or a calcium silicate cement, whereas the granular aggregate is pref. a refractory. The foamant is pref. casein, which is possibly used together with a second foamant. Used as a lightweight refractory and fireproof concrete or mortar, and esp. as prefabricated mouldings for buildings, etc. where the gas pores, esp. air pores, form a very large part of the mouldings, i.e. 50% or more.
