<p>A metal strip is made with a rectangular cross-section is made from steel, brass, or other metals; and the strip is rolled on both sides to obtain profiled grooves corresp. to the key profiles inside the lock cylinder. The strip is then stamped to produce key blanks. Instead of rolling, the strip may be milled on both sides to form the grooves; and the initial strip can be made by casting. Another pref. alternative method of forming the profiled grooves is to extrude the initial strip through a die. Mass prodn. of key blanks at very low cost is obtd.</p> |
