A fluid pulse former comprises a fluid amplifier having outlet passages 16, 18 leading from an interaction chamber 14, a flow divider being located in the chamber and having an edge offset from the centre line. In the embodiment shown, a power jet supplied to nozzle 12 will cause flow through the outlet passage 16 in the absence of signals to control nozzles 22, 24. The control nozzles are supplied with a pressure signal through passage 26 which has a stream divider 28 whereby flow passes through a conduit 30 to nozzle 22 and through a sliding trombone conduit 34 to the nozzle 24. In operation, when a signal is supplied to passage 26, flow from the nozzle 22 deflects the jet to outlet passage 18 until the signal passes through the conduit 34 to nozzle 24 when the jet is deflected back to passage 16. The time of the pulse out of passage 18 depends on the difference in length between the conduits. To provide a further pulse, the input signal must first be stopped. In a modification, the input signal feeds the power jet nozzle and a branch passage of longer length feeds a control nozzle thus when the signal is first applied, the jet passes through an output passage to provide the pulse until deflected by flow through the branch passage to the control nozzle. |
