The mechanical clutch incorporates a coil spring (4), fixed at one end (5) to a driving or driven member (1), while the other end (3) is brought into the path of a lug (7) sliding on a driven or driving member (2) in order to engage the clutch. This gives a smooth coupling action. Alternatively there can be two coil springs, each fixed at one end to one of the members and slid so that their free ends engage.
