Photosetting machine transport mechanism - has spiked measuring wheel perforating edge of paper

The measuring mechanism transports paper in a photosetting machine. It has a reversible conveyor and a measuring wheel recording the length transported. The wheel is connected to a movement detector, and has spikes round the periphery, so as to produce a permanent perforation track along one edge of the paper. The spikes can be no more than 1mm. long and spaced so as to produce perforations at constant intervals, one of them always being engaged with the paper. There can be an adjustable air gap between the measuring wheel and the one against which it works, the latter exerting a slight spring pressure on the material where this is thicker than the gap.
