Control of matrix printer for half tone reproductions - has signal generators and noise generator to control matrix printer in statistical mode

A dot matrix printing process includes a signal generation facility that allows half tone reproductions to be obtained. A computer (7) is used to generate data that is entered into an intermediate memory (6) in digital format. The print control unit (3) outputs a signal (8) for each point to be printed. The cycle generator (11) activates two function generators (13,15). A noise generator (12) provides an output that is compared (14) with a function generator output to give a random signal. The sample and hold circuit (16) coupled to the printer control is dependent upon a statistical process for its output.
