A process for preparing aromatic carbamates in high yields, which comprises reacting an aromatic nitro compound, an organic compound having a hydroxy group, and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst composed of (a) 0.5 to 20m mol (as a metal) of a platinum metal or a compound thereof, (b) 1 to 70m mol (as a metal) of vanadium or a compound thereof, (c) 0.3 to 50m mol (as a metal) of iron or a compound thereof, (d) 30 to 400m mol of a halogen atom, and (e) a tertiary amine, per 1 kg of said hydroxy group-containing organic compound to be fed to the reaction system. |
