PURPOSE:To produce printers with reduced cost and a higher printing speed by a method wherein a printing head provided with plural nozzles each at a certain position is employed to effect the divided printing of characters using plural printing area for each character. CONSTITUTION:A printing head 4 is provided with nozzles 10a, 10b and further with electic charge electrodes 5a, 5b corresponding to the nozzles, respectively. (Namerals 6, 6 denote deflecting electrodes, numeral 9 denotes a gutter, and both the nozzles have a distance therebetween equal to an intercharacter distance (l) in the lateral direction with respect to the head traveling direction and have a distance therebetween equal to 1/2 of a character height (h) in the vertical direction). Each character is subject to the divided printing through first and second positions which are disposed along the traveling direction of the head 4. For example, when printing characters such as ''X'' or ''Y'', a lower half of ''X'' is printed with the nozzle 10b at the first position and an upper half of ''X'' is printed with the nozzle 10a at the second position, thus forming the complete character of ''X''. On this occasion, while the upper half of ''X'' is printed at the second position, a lower half of subsequent ''Y'' is printed at the first position. Thus, it becomes possible to obtain a printing speed about 2 times faster than the prior printer. |
