PURPOSE:To prepare a friction material having high stability and durability and suitable for the automatic transmission of automobiles, etc., by compounding a pulp substrate with inorganic filler and an intermediate of vinylon fiber, making the mixture to a sheet, impregnating the sheet with a phenolic binder, and forming the sheet with a hot-press. CONSTITUTION:(A) 45-89.5(wt)% beated pulp substrate is mixed with (B) 10- 50% inorganic fillers such as varium sulfate, kaolin, etc. and then compounded with (C) 0.5-5% low-melting intermediate of vinylon fiber. The mixture is made to a sheet, dried, processed, impregnated with a phenolic binder, and cured by hot- pressing to obtain the objecting friction material. The component (C) is pref. 1- 5mm. in length and 0.5-5mu in diameter. |
