1,167,557. Plate heat-exchangers. LINDE A.G. 11 Oct., 1967 [12 Oct., 1966], No. 46351/67. Heading F4S. In a plate-type heat exchanger comprising spaced-apart parallel plates 1 each formed by an extrusion process with integral parallel T-shaped fins 5 on each side of the plate, the fins 5 from each pair of adjacent plates project into a common fluid flow passage and contact one another to prevent deformation and movement of the plates. The fins may alternatively be arrow-shaped (Figs. 2 and 5), Y-shaped (Fig. 3) or L-shaped (Fig. 4). As shown, each of the fins on one side of the plate is arranged centrally between two fins on the other side, but alternatively the fins may be arranged opposite to each other (Fig. 4). Each plate is formed with thickened side parts 11 equal to the distance between adjacent plates and along which the plates are sealed by welding at 12. Advantageously the fins are provided with a series of grooves (Figs. 9, 10) extending over the surface of the plates in the region of the inlet and outlet ends of the exchanger to facilitate even distribution and collection of the heat exchange media to or from the spaces between adjacent plates, said grooves extending diagonally to the longitudinal direction of the fins. |
