TERMINAL DEVICE HAVING CHARACTER-TO-VOICE CHANGEOVER FUNCTION

PURPOSE:To realize an automatic changeover from character to voice and vice versa, by providing a character/voice changeover switch and a means to detect the specific signal sent from a host computer and then to change over the character/ voice changeover switch. CONSTITUTION:A terminal device 1 performs the transmission/reception of the character data to a host computer 11 via a telephone 8. A character/voice change over switch 10 is povided between an acoustic coupling part 7 and a modulation/ demodulation process part 2 of the device 1. In addition, a voice output part 9 delivers a voice informatin transmission message of the computer 11 via t e switch 10, and a means (such as a multi-frequency receiver 12 and a switch drive part 13) is provided to detect a spacific signal (such as a waveform sequence of specific time duration of a specified frequency) which is sent from the computer 11 while the voice information transmissio message is received and then to change over the switch 10 to the side of the process part 2.
