The present invention comprises a highly efficient degassing and filtration method and apparatus wherein a plurality of sequentially spaced apart filter type media are provided in a filter chamber with a fluxing gas inlet provided therebetween. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention the first filter type medium is provided with a preferential path for the fluxing gas thus eliminating the undesirable pressure drop across said first filter type medium thereby increasing metal treatment efficiency.
