An electrode comprising a current-conducting base having deposited thereon an active mass of the following composition, in percent by mass: -silica 10-90 -platinum group metal oxides 5-45 -oxides of passivating metals 5-45. - The electrode of this invention is useful as anodes in the production of chlorine and caustic soda, as well as in electrolytic processes of producing chlorates and hyperchlorites.
