METHOD FOR CHROMATICGRAPHIC SEPARATION OF FRUCTOSE/DEXTROSF SOLUTIONE

Tight packing of an adsorbent in a sepn. column with a chamber >=1.83 m wide comprises firstly mixing the adsorbent with an excess of a conc. reagent which causes the adsorbent to contract reversibly in its presence. The adsorbent is then packed in the contracted state, into the chamber of the sepn. column and effectively enclosed. The excess reagent is then removed to cause the adsorbent to swell so that the chamber becomes fully and uniformly packed with the adsorbent particles. The process is esp. useful for preparing technical scale ion exchange units contg. e.g. Ca salts of cross linked ring-sulphonated polystyrene esin adsorbents used in the sepn. of mixed fructose- and dextrose sugar solns.
