摘要 <p>1507508 Deuterium exchange ATOMIC ENERGY OF CANADA Ltd 2 Sept 1975 [21 Oct 1974] 36115/75 Heading C1A Deuterium is separated in a dual temperature isotope exchange process in which streams of liquid and gas are passed countercurrently through a cold and a hot tower containing a plurality of transfer units to effect an exchange of deuterium from the gas to the liquid in the cold tower and from the liquid to the gas in the hot tower, the process being characterized in that the number of "transfer units" in the hot tower is at least 10% greater than the number in the cold tower. The term "transfer units" is defined as the number of theoretical sieve trays (or other suitable "transfer unit") which differs from the actual number of trays by a factor corresponding to the extent which the actual trays achieve in approaching equilibrium conditions. In a suitable apparatus the number of transfer units in the hot tower is in the range of between 1À1 and 2À0 times those in the cold tower; interconnections are provided between the towers to allow the gas and liquid streams to pass in countercurrent relation through the towers and to recycle the gas and/or the liquid between the towers.</p>
