RAPID COUNTING OF CELLS OF AEROBIC MICROGRANISMS

PURPOSE:A rapid counting of cells of aerobic microorganisms in which a sample of a water-soluble metalworking oil including aerobic microorganisms and aqueous hydrogen peroxide are withdrawn in a shringe and the catalase activity is measured with graduations to calculate the number of the cells therefrom. CONSTITUTION:A water-soluble metalworking oil or liquid food product including aerobic microorganisms and aqueous hydrogen peroxide are sampled in shringe. The amount of the evolving oxygen gas or the change in the liquid amount is read from the graduations and the number of the cells of aerobic microorganisms are calculated from the result and a previously prepared calibration curve. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide is about 0.1-30% and the reaction is effected at about 5-40 deg.C for 5-90min.
