A circuit-breaker has main bridging and fixed contacts 8, 19 and a pair of pivotal arcing contacts 1, 3 in parallel therewith, the angle between each of the lines joining the point of contact of the arcing contacts and the pivots and the line joining the two pivots being less than 30 degrees. The arcing contacts are connected to the corresponding fixed main contacts by flexible conductors 4 arranged with respect to the pivots 2 so that the electrodynamic forces act to increase arcing contact pressure and the bridging contact 8 and the conductors 6 carrying the fixed contacts 6 are arranged so that the electrodynamic forces increase the pressure at the main contacts. The flexible conductors 4 are supported against rigid insulating partitions 5 perpendicular to conductors 6. A partition 22 separates the two sets of contacts. The arcing contacts are operated through linkages 13 by a member 23 coupled with the main bridge contact. Adjusting screws 33 serve to set the operating point.
