The safety stripping knife has an electrically insulating handle and a hooked cutting blade sheathed in insulating material covering all but the cutting edge of the knife blade. This allows the stripping of insulation from live electric cables with min. danger to personnel and reduced risk of accidental short circuits. The stripping knife has a steel blade (5) with a curved hook (3) at one end. The blade has a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) moulded handle (13) with hand grips (15) and guards (12,16) moulded in. The cutting area of the blade has holes (9) drilled at intervals along its length to provide keying for the PVC sheath (4) which is moulded in place over the greater part of the blade, so that only the cutting edge (8) is left uncovered. The blade itself has steel reinforcing ridges along top and bottom to prevent flexing.
