PURPOSE:To facilitate the maintenance and control of a lower electrode by installing the electrode in the center of an ore discharge pan under the bottom of an electric furnace for refining zinc or the like so as to prevent the sticking of scale to the outside of the electrode. CONSTITUTION:A lower electrode 10 and an ore discharge pan 20 surrounding the electrode 10 are installed under the bottom of an electrothermally distilling furnace 1, and they are rotated unitedly, or the electrode 10 alone is fixed. A deflecting plate is interposed between the pan 20 and the bottom jacket of the furnace. Discharged residue rotating on the pan 20 together with the pan 20 is hit against the deflecting plate and discharged from the pan 20 to prevent the sticking of scale to the outside of the electrode 10. Scale stuck inevitably to the top of the electrode 10 during operation is easily removed by suitably inserting a cleaner 60. At this time, no obstacle exists between the bottom of the furnace and the pan 20 including the electrode 10, so the cleaner 60 is worked easily and surely.
