Bituminous compositions having good energy-absorption properties contain bitumen, cured extract, a finely divided, crosslinked non-thermoplastic rubber and a filler, the amount by weight of the finely divided, crosslinked, non-thermoplastic rubber being greater than or equal to the amount by weight of the filler, and the bitumen being a rubber-containing bitumen in which the rubber is a non-thermoplastic copolymer of at least two mono- alpha -olefins and a cyclic olefin containing an endocyclic bridge and at least two olefinic double bonds. The compositions can be shaped to give boards or sheet-like materials using rubber mixing units and are suitable as safety coverings, for example for children's playgrounds.
