The bedding unit converts into a chair and incorporates three retractable bed elements (1,2,5) which can be utilised in any of three different arrangements. Two of these arrangements are intended for night use and provide three (1,2,5) and two superimposed beds respectively, the beds being spaced at greater vertical intervals in the latter case. In the third day arrangement the two upper (1,2) beds fold away and the lower (5) becomes the backrest of a chair (3). The upper beds are double faced and invert during a conversion from the first to the second arrangement, the chair assembly (4,5) using the rear face of a pivotable backrest (5) to provide the bed for the first arrangement. The mounting of the two upper beds permits their deployment in a superimposed horizontal and vertically offset relationship with either major faces uppermost, or their retraction into a vertically aligned relationship.
