<p>A splint for supporting a broken or dislocated limb is made by applying a bandage having interconnecting hollow strip pockets which can be filled with a liq. to harden after the bandaged limb is in position. Alt. may be used for erecting temporary structures. The liq. may be a plaster or a hardenable resin, pref. a material which remains malleable or slightly elastic after curing. Lighter and cooler than a solid plaster cast, ventilates most of the skin while immobilising the limb. Opt. the pockets may be reinforced internally with metal strip or a strong braid.</p> |
