The warning device shows a pressure rise in a container for storage or transportation of gases, and is an optical and/or acoustic arrangement giving sufficiently prompt indication of a rise in pressure up to the rating of the container to enable timely measures to be taken to reduce the pressure. The container wall has an opening (2) which is sealed by an elastically deformable cover (3) which forms a gas tight and pressure resistant seal. A rod (4) is placed in contact with the cover, which takes the form of a membrane or bellows, actuates an optical and/or acoustic signal source when the pressure rise occurs. The rod (4) carries a piston (6) and protrudes through the top of an enclosing housing (5). The piston operates a siren (7) and the top (4a) of the rod a visible deflector arm (9).
