PURPOSE:To reduce the weight of a grid, increase the energy density, and prevent any separation of the active material by surrounding the lower end of a positive plate, which is prepared from a grid having no active material holding bodies at its lower side, with a liquid absorbing separator in a U shape. CONSTITUTION:A gird 1, which is prepared by removing the lower side of a grid, is made of a Pb-Ca alloy or the like. The grid 1 is packed with a paste consisting of lead oxide and dilute sulfuric acid, thus a positive plate 3 is obtained. A grid, which is made of a Pb-Ca alloy or the like and has a grid-like active material holding body, is packed with a paste consisting of lead oxide, BaSO4, an organic additive and dilute sulfuric acid, thus a negative plate 4 is obtained. The lower side of the positive plate 3 is covered with a liquid absorbing separator 2 in a shape of a U, and the positive and the negative plates 3 and 4 are stacked to form a plate group. A gel-like electrolyte consisting of either dilute sulfuric acid or a mixture of dilute sulfuric acid and silicic anhydride is poured into the plate group, thereby constituting a storage battery. |
