A composite sheet composed of fabric faced with thermoplastic or elastomer is produced by conventionally calendering the thermoplastics or elastomer to produce the foil; this foil is then pulled from the last roll at a higher speed than the roll to reduce its thickness, and is then combined with the fabric sheet in a roll gap. The fabric sheet may be preheated before contact. The finished sheet may be subjected to an embossing process afterwards. Pref. thermoplastics or elastomer is calendered, and drawn from the last roll by a contact roll revolving at higher speed, the fabric passes over a heating roller before entering the roll gap where the two sheets are combined. The combined sheet leaving the roll may then pass over an embossing roll. Used for producing tent sheeting, tarpaulins, awnings, civil engineering fabric sheets etc. Arrangement enables wide sheets to be produced without excessively heavy roll pressures, but nevertheless with a very thin plastics foil, by the action of thinning the foil as it leaves the calendering section.
|
