Continuous casting dummy bar - with pear-shaped anchoring element detachable from stem

A dummy bar for a continuous casting machine of the horizontal type, for high-melting metals and alloys, esp. for steel, has at the end facing the tundish a detachable anchoring element. This element is drop-shaped and seals initially against the conical wall of the die block, joining the tundish to the water-cooled mould. The tundish (1) is joined to the water-cooled mould (4) by a die block (6) with a cylindrical (7) and a conical (8) part. The dummy bar (11) consists of the stem (12) and a drop-shaped anchoring element (13) which are joined by a screw connection (14). This permits an arbitrary start of the continuous casting process. No foreign matter can enter the skin of the cast strand. The dummy bar is simple and can be used profitably.
