A display element for alpha-numeric representation is designed to operate on the Braille principle and is for use with data processing systems. The unit has a number of pins (A,B) that can be raised above the surface of a plate to form Braille characters that are sensed with the fingers. The pins are raised by pressing a plunger (9) to deform a diaphragm (8) that encloses a liquid volume (7). Deformation of the diaphragm occurs to raise all pins. As the actuating plunger is released, certain selected pins are held in the raised position by piezoelectric strips that are deformed by applied electrical signals (13,14).
|
