The invention is a device for protecting the occupants of motor vehicles in conjunction with passenger seat-belts and for securing the said belts. In order to ensure that the motor vehicle cannot be started up unless the occupants of the vehicle have put on their seat-belts, a current connection is produced between the ignition lock and starter of the motor vehicle by means of a microswitch (2) which is actuated when the passenger seat-belt is closed. <IMAGE>
