Impact absorbing front section for car - has separate mounting for headlamps and grille to bumper mounting

The front section of the car is supported between upper (5) and lower (2) frame members on each side of the engine compartment. A vertical frame (7) between the front of the upper frame member and the lower frame serves to locate the front moulding (13) inside which the trim grille and headlamps (17) are mounted. The bumper (10) is mounted directly on the lower frame member. The mounting isolates the headlamp mounting from small impacts on the bumper. The front of the engine cover (11) has locating tabs (16) to align with recesses (15) in the top of the front moulding. The moulding can be plastics, formed for lightness and low cost. It provides a non load bearing part of the body.
