For a winding machine for winding a plurality of threads (3), especially in conjunction with a spinning machine, there is described a piecing device, by means of which a multiplicity of threads (3) held in a thread suck-off gun (20) are inserted into piecing-thread guides (18) at the projecting end of a winding head and are then brought into predetermined positions. The piecing device consists of a drive unit (28) which is pivotable by means of a thread-piecing arm (15) and by which the piecing-thread guides (18) fastened to sliding elements (36) can be moved along a straight guide (34) by means of a driveable push-on spindle (38). The positioning of the piecing-thread guides (18) is carried out by means of a respective bent plate (42) assigned to a winding station and having a detent pawl (48), the making of a positive connection between the sliding element (36) and detent pawl (48) being controllable in the blocking and the releasing direction via control edges (46, 47, 49). A similar threading-in of the thread bundle is proposed for the conventionally fixed thread guides (2) which form the vertices of the traversing triangles above the winding stations. The device makes it easier to piece the thread bundle and makes it possible to select a narrower machine division in combination with long projecting clamping chucks (7). <IMAGE>
