Infusion appliance monitor - responds to irregular pressure rise upstream of catheter

An infusion appliance for the injection of metered amts. of a fluid into a human or animal body through a catheter includes upstream of the outflow catheter a pressure signal transmitter. The latter is designed as a switch which either opens an N.C. contact or closes an N.O. contact when a predetermined limit pressure is exceeded. This monitors the infusion system for obstacles in the flow (e.g. crystallised inulin) or for the formation of a thrombus at the point of the catheter, so that counter measures can be taken in time.
